Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a form of ‘talking therapy’, that combines the use of psychotherapy with hypnosis. Hypnosis is a very natural, relaxing state, encouraged by using guided relaxation, where the mind can relax and then focus on thoughts and consider suggestions that might be useful. As a modern psychotherapeutic approach, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses practical, structured, and well-researched strategies to help people make significant, positive changes in their lives in a relatively short period of time. Crucially, in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, therapists look at what the client wants to achieve (the solution) rather than at whatever prompted them to seek help (the problem).
After spending the majority of my working life in the military, I began the transition to civilian life in my mid 30s. It didn’t go particularly well and after a couple of tumultuous years I finally ‘bit the bullet” and reached out for some help. My therapist was remarkable, patient, kind and the whole process itself was life changing. I appreciate that such phrases like “life changing”, “life saving”, “revolutionary” and many others are used on a daily basis but I truly believe that without the therapeutic intervention I underwent my life would be very different to how it is now.
Whilst thoroughly embracing and committing to the process I quickly realised that I wanted to be a part of this journey for other people, that I wanted to be a therapist! So, as soon as I was feeling well enough I began studying and gaining qualifications. Here I am in my mid 40s still studying away whilst I strive for a PhD but more importantly doing the job of my dreams!
When I’m not busy with clients I can generally be found romping through the woods with my beloved labradors, carrying out various pony chores in the stables, or generally embracing nature. This calm and peaceful approach to life keeps me grounded and happy, something we all need!
